New 2017 Mazda6 at Hiley Mazda of Arlington TX

The Mazda6 is a vehicle that is known to hold its own in the very competitive midsize sedan segment. For the 2017 model year, the '6' returns with some updates to standard and optional equipment, as well as the addition of a new Mazda-exclusive technology termed G-Vectoring Control system, which promises to improve handling dynamics.  Last year's Technology package has been replaced by a new Premium package. The Mazda6 has comfortable seating for five and is available in three trim levels - Sport, Touring or Grand Touring. Mazda's mid-size sedan is not only comfortable and sensible as a daily driver, it offers strong performance, impressive driver engagement and a style that is unique among its class. Better yet, fuel economy is competitive with the rest of the segment, and the 2017 Mazda6 has one of the best technology interfaces to be found.

Under the Mazda6's Hood

There is one engine available for all Mazda6 modes - a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 184 horsepower and 185 pound-feet of torque. For transmission, you will find a six-speed manual transmission on Sport and Touring models.  The top level Grand Touring model comes standard with a six-speed automatic transmission. If you prefer stick shift, it is optional for the lower trims. Mazda has earned its reputation for building cars that are engaging and 'fun to drive'. This certainly holds true for the 2017 Mazda6, and in some ways is what sets it apart from the others in the segment.  For all models acceleration is strong and you will find the engine noise to be a perfect balance between offering a quiet cabin and hearing the roar of the engine.  The suspension is on the sporty side, and communicative steering further enhances the driving experience.

Design of Mazda6

Step into the 2017 Mazda6 cabin and you will find a modern atmosphere that is clearly built with high quality materials. The seats offer good support, and the ride is comfortable, even over long periods of time. The rear seats give plenty of head and legroom for adults. One of the best features of the Mazda6 is the infotainment system, called Mazda Connect. It has a tablet-like display and a central dial controller, something you would normally find in a luxury vehicle.  Using the system is easy, the menus are intuitive, and as a driver this is important so you are able to focus on the road, not on fiddling with switches.  Storage is par for the class, and there are bins and pockets throughout. Cargo space in the trunk comes in at 14.8-cubic-feet and the opening is wide, allowing for easy loading of large objects. The base Sport trim has many standard features. These include keyless entry and ignition, full power accessories, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, /40-split folding rear seats, Bluetooth phone and streaming audio, and the Mazda Connect infotainment system with voice control, text messaging capabilities, and a 7-inch touchscreen.  Step up to the Touring model and you will get some add-ons, such as automatic headlights, automatic wipers, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision mitigation, synthetic leather upholstery and power driver seat adjustments. The top-level Grand Touring model is the ultimate Mazda6, with LED foglights, automatic high beams, a rear trunklid spoiler, a lane keeping assistance system, steering-wheel-mounted paddles shifters, a traffic sign reader with speed warnings, a navigation system, leather upholstery and more.
