New 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF at dealership name for city, ST
The 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF is the replacement to the Mazda MX-5 PHRT model of yesteryear and offers new flair while retaining its core philosophies. The MX-5 RF also shares many characteristics with its soft-top counterpart but includes enough advancements to make it feel like more than just another trim level.
Under the MX-5 Miata RF's Hood
The Mazda MX-5 Miata RF is powered by a SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine capable of 155 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque. The standard powertrain is the SKYACTIV-MT six-speed manual transmission, but there is also an available six-speed automatic. Its smooth and fluid ride can be attributed in part to its rear multi-link suspension and front double wishbone with aluminum control arms. Both the front and rear suspencions also feature monotube dampers. The MX-5 RF benefits from its chassis made up of a rear and a front suspension subframe and the monocoque, or single shell, unibody backbone frame construction. Taking a similar approach to handling as other members of the Miata fold, the MX-5 RF utilizes rack-and-pinion steering.
Design of Mazda MX-5 Miata RF
While similar in goal and presence, The Mazda MX-5 Miata RF is distinct for the Mazda MX-5 Miata soft-top in many subtle ways. The Mazda MX-5 RF is the newest addition to the Mazda Miata family and features design elements and technology scarcely seen at such a low price point. The RF stands for "retractable fastback" which certainly describes the signature feature of this vehicle. Featuring a power-folding hardtop, the RF can bring its roof open or closed in only 13 seconds. It is a stylish and luxurious alternative to The MX-5's soft-top or the MX-5 PRHT of generations past. Fans of the Mazda brand may enjoy the MX-5 RF Launch Edition trim level that features a Machine Gray Metallic paint, a hand-painted black top, and an Auburn Nappa leather interior. But act quickly because only 1,000 units of this trim level are being made. The Mazda MX-5 Miata RF is a uniquely valuable car, offering premium and luxury equipment at a comparatively low price. Its signature feature the retractable fastback is nearly unheard of on vehicles in such an affordable price range. There are two distinct trim levels for the Mazda MX-5 RF that mirror the latter trim levels of its soft-top counterpart. The MX-5 RF Club trim level comes equipped with the same features as the soft-top version Club model. These features include 16-inch wheels, a nine-speaker BOSE audio system, LED headlights and tail lights, power mirrors and windows, cruise control, a limited-slip differential, leather-wrapped shifter and handbrake, red stitching, and plenty of other features. Step up to the Grad Touring and get the heated leather seats, rain sensing windshield wipers, keyless entry, sound absorption material in the headliner and tons of other additional features. Compared to the MX-5 soft-top, the MX-5 RF offers added interior features like a 4.6-inch LCD display and a roof open/close switch. The display gives the driver access to features like roof status, driver, and compass information.
